Caceres nears Juve move

Juventus are on the verge of signing Uruguay international Martin Caceres from Sevilla, according to reports in Italy.

The Serie A outfit has reportedly been in protracted talks with Sevilla about a transfer for the defender during the January transfer window.

They are keen to add some more depth to their squad, but Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriguez has stressed Juventus will have to increase their offer in order to sign Caceres.

According to Tuttosport, Juve are now reportedly ready to meet the La Liga club s demands and will send a delegation to Spain in the upcoming days to complete talks.

The 24-year-old defender had a spell at Juventus during the 2009/10 season when on-loan from Barcelona, and Caceres is said to be eager to return to Turin o…

Guardiola humbled by Sanchez but should resist tiresome transfer chase

Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero, intertwined by transfer speculation that will surely run deep into the close-season, supplied sharply contrasting images of unfettered joy and helpless dejection as Arsenal overcame Manchester City 2-1 in extra-time to book their place in the FA Cup semi-final.

Aguero had City dreaming of a date with destiny against double-chasing Chelsea next month when he charged on to Yaya Toure s brilliant, raking pass and coolly dinked past Petr Cech in the 62nd minute.

It was a 12th goal in his last 12 games for the Argentina striker and 30th in all competitions this season, yet uncertainly still lingers around the future of City s modern-day talisman.

Pep Guardiola has been more forthcoming in his praise of the 28-year-old over recent week…

Bartomeu out: Suarez to Malcom – 10 transfers that defined Barca president´s reign

Josep Maria Bartomeu s ultimately unpopular tenure as Barcelona president has finally come to an end after the club s entire board resigned.

Barca won the treble in his first full season in charge in 2014-15, led by the thrilling front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.

But it seems unlikely Bartomeu s time as the top man at Camp Nou will be remembered for that success.

Barca subsequently suffered humiliation after humiliation in the Champions League, reaching a remarkable crescendo with August s 8-2 quarter-final demolition at the hands of eventual champions Bayern Munich.

However, it was Bartomeu s failings in the transfer market that helped put the Catalan giants in such a position.

While Neymar left and then Lionel Messi pushed for…

We won’t stop – Georgia Stanway vows England will ‘continue to break barriers’

England midfielder Georgia Stanway vowed the Lionesses would carry on fighting for top spot on the planet after finishing runners-up to Spain in the World Cup final in Sydney.

The Lionesses were among the pre-tournament favourites in Australia and New Zealand, with punters pointing to their dominant run to last summer’s European title, but injuries to Leah Williamson, Beth Mead and Fran Kirby and the retirement of Ellen White left Sarina Wiegman without four players who started every match of that triumph before she even named her World Cup squad.

Wiegman barely had time to breathe a sigh of relief after learning key midfielder Keira Walsh’s knee injury, sustained in England’s second group-stage encounter, was not as serious as initially suspected before the influe…

Erik ten Hag is now set for the sack at Man Utd?

Man Utd had a positive first season under Ten Hag last term with the Dutchman guiding them to an FA Cup final, Carabao Cup silverware and a top-four finish in the Premier League.

However, it has not gone to plan this campaign with Man Utd crashing out of Europe by finishing bottom of their Champions League group, while they are currently sitting seventh in the …
